The Church of St. Peter belongs to the Parish of St. Moritz in Augsburg. The Church was constructed of wood before the year 800. In 1067 it was “reconstructed” by Count Schwigger von Batzhausen. This tower called Perlach (Perlachtum) belongs to the State of Bavaria. It was used as a millitary watch tower, during the Roman Empire. In the year 1182, the tower was built with its current look. The dome was built in 1614 by Elias Holl. The name “Perlach”, comes from a latin-german term which means, “Cadaver” .It was called The Hill of the Cadaver” because a whole Roman Legion of (almost 4000 soldiers) were defeated there by the Celtics and Finland during the Roman Empire. The tower is the core of the city and one of its best symbols. It has always been a motive for many disputes between catholics and protestants. The disputes although very important to the history of Bavaria, did not play a significant role in the hierarchy of the clergy. It was on the verge of being demolished on four occasions.
The church was secularized in 1780 and in 1803. The Jesuits were in charge of the church after World War II. An organization of Lay people have been in charge of the tower of Perlach since then. The tower and the Church holds one of the most important phases of history and religión in the Germany of the Roman Empire and in the next consecutive imperial goverments. The Perlach was the seat of the royal goverment of Bavaria and place of gathering for  patrioric families who would answer to Rome.
