as Untier of Knots ©
                                               By Mario H. Ibertis Rivera

There are many  testimonies that exist, of The Virgin Mary Mother of God as The
Untier of Knots, that have motivated me to dedicate a“special devotion” to her.
This devotion is the «28 days with the Virgin Mary»,  where I inaugurate a new or a
different form of prayer to the Virgin Mary. This by no means is intended to put aside
any other forms of prayer to her or without loosing the validity of the traditional exercisces
like the Novenas. And in this case, to make our pleas stand out in all their spiritual fullness and
historical rigor, I used a period of 28 days of prayer with the Virgin Mary .

I have taken the 28 days, or four «weeks», that summarizes the days that the
main character(Wolfgang) from the story that brought forth this devotion, were he
was receiving continious «Spiritual direction» from the venerable Father Jacob Rem
S.J. who was inspired by the permanent prayer to the Virgin Mary, with the original
Title of «Mary Protector of the Roman Town» or «Our Lady of the Snow”
A copy of this prayer from the original seven prayers made , was requested by Saint Charles
Borromeo, and the prayer chosen was the one of Ingolstadt.

There are no magic spells in this devotion. You may elaborate a guide, to be able
To do this In the community The words of the Venerable Father Jacob Rem S.J,
  Can serve as an example:

«The important thing, is not what you ask of the Virgin Mary, but how you go about it».
We should not forget that father Jacob Rem S.J. was the one who inaugurated the
Devotion of «Mater Ter Admirabilis» (Mother three times admirable ) in his original language
German, «Dreimal Wunderbaren Mutter" and that gave its title to other devotions.

From the story of my book «María Knotenlöserin, the True History», the character
(Wolfgang),  presents himself  before the Virgin Mary  in the Chapel of the Jesuits of
Ingolstadt, Germany during four Saturdays that coincide with those of the
lunar phases. This was not the image that was painted later, the one that was, was the one
given  by Saint Charles Barromeo.  This shows us that, for example, prayer and supplication
accompanied with the prayer of the Holy Rosary, or  a part of it, Is a powerful weapon
  in the face of adversity.

In this book of Exercises, I use the moon as a  symbolic  element, not
as a subject of veneration. In the old days the moon was used to measure time, hours, days
and months.  It is a fact, the bride of the song of songs; that  arises like the
dawn,  beautiful as the moon, brilliant as the sun; (Sg .6.10)

«Who is this that comes forth like the dawn,
                          beautiful as the moon,
                          as resplendent as the sun
as awe inspiring as bannered troops?»

The moon, is a feminine symbol, for excellence. In those days the moon was use to mark a
woman’s menstrual cycle, births were calculated ,and therefore the fertility of  motherhood.
This concept, contains a truth of natured lavished by the Supreme Maker,
and the inspired poetry of the sensitive souls.

White and beautiful as the moon. What palette can imitate the white purity of
the moon, when we admire her at her fullest. The times are reborn, keeping in mind
that a principle existed: The moon’s cycle begins a full moon.
This is when the sun releases its full rays of light to this asteroid, that is without its own light.
This may be the reason why I symbolize with the greatest respect and veneration,The Virgin  Mary.

In  these  practices we will  use the antique elements of devotions. Like the olive tree,
laurel,  incense, holy water, and our irreplaceble Rosary.  With which, we will
      complete Our Family Altar.
Following Church Traditions, the order of repetitious prayer has been given. Each
moment, each hour, and every day, marks the  importance of this rite. We have always
know that the ancient ways of humanity will always come to our soul .
In tradition, you will notice the inheritance of the old pagan rituals, we cannot avoid this in our
own imperfections.  There will always be some sort of “magic”,
although this is not the essence of our faith, beliefs, or of  sound Christian morals.

When some of the old Fathers of the church, censored certain ritual
practices, they did this with the intention of not returning back to these customs.  These
“occult” practices have  “taken away”, deformed the sense of our hopes of salvation.
We should not fear.  It is almost our duty to rescue these values.  Restoring the old ways
and comparing them to the most modern
  concepts of the 21st Century.

The first section in the book contains the basis of the Rite, and the
four parts that contain the prayers that correspond to each Saturday of the
Solemn veneration, plus the daily prayers.  These prayers will walk you through, from
The annunciation through the promised Resurrection.

These exercises, will strengthen your soul. Through the intercession of Our Virgin Mary  The Untier of
Knots, you will have protection through her Maternal influence. She will be ready to hear your petitions, always
directed to her Son , Our Lord Jesús Christ, the only universal mediator.  Jesús is the greatest Untier, undoer, Liberator of all the souls imprisoned by evil. He unties the tongues of the mute, he loosens those possesed
by unclean spirits, all this has been said by the Tradition of the Church, in which the wisdom that prayer gives,
we will interpret in our times with certainty and efficiency, for the Glory of God.

                                                                           Amen

What makes the Image of  "Maria Knotenlöserin", and of
"Our Lady of Schöenstatt" related.
Some may say, because they are both German in origin. But it is not that simple. “Maria Als
Knotenlöserin in English “Mary Untier of Knots” was an expression that came from an event in
which the venerable father Jacob Rem J.P.,plays a role in the true history of the Virgin Mary
Untier of Knots. In the story the noble Wolfgang Langenmantel being on the verge of a divorce,
visits with the venerable priest at Ingolstadt for a period of 28 days where they prayed for his
marriage before the image of Our Lady of the snows. During these days of prayer, father Rem
«in a solemn ritual act, elevates the matrimonial ribbon untying each of the knots. On day 28
the ribbon became smooth, white and pure as it was on the first day of the wedding vows
taken by Wolfgang and Sophie Inmoff», and this is how the marriage was able to continue.
From then on father Rem became part of the history of the Image of the Virgin Mary Untier of
Knots and as influence to the ancient and noble family of the Langenmantels.

Who was Jakob Rem (Jacobus Rem) J.P.

Front and Back of the medal of Jakob Rem, made in Ingostadt Germany

The Cathedral “Liebfrauenmunster” , was constructed almost 200 years ago by duke Gebartete
and enriched with gold brought by him from France. Already in function was the most important
University of south Germany. In 1595 on the south side and after the division of the Marian
congregation “Mayor” and “Minor” the Jesuit Priest made their  chapel in the convent of Saint
Ignatious with father Jacob Rem as the Rector. Jacob Rem was born in June 1546 in Bregenz
(Austria) by the Constanza lake in the limits of the Swiss Cantons. He passed away on Friday
12th of October ( date of his feast day) 1618 at Ingolstadt, he is buried in this same Cathedral.
When he was 20(1566), he joined the Jesuit order in Rome. He worked in Munich Dilligen, and
lastly at Ingolstadt where he was particularly dedicated to religious education. The oratory of
the congregation had a copy of the Image of “Our Lady of the Snows”, which gave origin to our
own and others, as we will see later on. This Image painted in Oil, was a very rare style for that
period and captivated anyone who would see it.

Our Lady of the Snows

Our Lady of the Snows
Our Lady of the Snows year 1570, St. Francis of Borgia ( Borja, hl. Franz)
spaniard and duke of Candia and who was second in command to( St.
Ignatious of Loyola of the company of Jesus). When he was at the Jesuit
college of “St. Mary Major” of Rome, by his request and by approval of St.
Charles, 7(seven) copies were made of the Image titled “ Our Lady of the
Snows” under the order and permission of Pope Pious V, since it was not
permitted to make copies of this painting attributed to St. Luke.(*) The
other six copies were distributed to the Jesuit Missions including one that
was in Brazil. I cannot determined who is the original author in this one,
since the one who made the copy gave it a certain style to accentuate
the drama of the Image, which is very important. The title of Our Lady
of the snows has been around since 352 to 366 ( Pope Liberius).
(*) Its been proven that the original painting was from the XII century..

Saint Francis of Borja and Jakob Rem
One of the copies of the Image of Our Lady of the Snows, was given to
Father Jakob Rem , who was in Ingolstadt and had her in Dilligen in the
German congregation. He began the devotion with great fervor in
Ingolstadt in 1577. They were called “Followers of the footsteps of Petrus
Canisius” ( One of the first Jesuits in Germany who worked actively in the
  Catholic reform.)
The elite group was growing in number, until the Marian colloquium was
established in 1595 formed by the most important members of the
congregation such as many Bishops, abadeses and very important
scholars.                                   Saint Francis of Borja J.P.

Thrice Admirable
On Friday april 16th 1604, Father Jakob Rem played a role in a “Marian Illumination” event that made
him famous. As he was kneeling in the chapel of the colloquium , when he finished the rosary and
sang the Laurentian Letanies. We are told that he was above the earth “covered with wings” (which
he declares to question), The Mother of God had appeared to him and told him :
«The title of Mater Admirabilis, is especially dear to me», for which Father Jakob Rem moves to the
left and repeats this title two more times. This is how the title of “ Thrice Admirable” originated.

The devotion of this merciful painting of the “Dreimal wunderbaren Mutter” ( Mother Thrice admirable)
stayed at the Jesuit college in the memories of the priest and of Jakob Rem. It has stayed in the
memory and in the treasures of the Cathedral. This Marian event where Jakob Rem was chosen to
play a role, projects itself as motivation for our times. After the expulsion of the Jesuit orders in 1773
from the Spanish domains, the painting of the Ignatious convent was returned and transferred to
Mary of the Victories Church and was published by the university , returning after the taken over of
the Landshut Bavaria in 1879 by king Ludwig II and was enthroned solemnly in the cathedral in the
  year 1881.

Since 1881 solemn manifestations began in the cathedrals. During the war in 1942 she
was placed under the ownership of the State(Eichstatter) The Bishop of the State Michael Rackl
placed the whole diocese under the protection of the “ Thrice admirable” and lifted the ownership of
the Diocese as it was before. This gives proof to the holy character in which they based themselves
to request the canonization of father Jakob Rem. Since the process of canonization subsist until
today and the authorities from Rome have not expedited the process, I wish to manifest that the
oratory was visited by students and priest science professors, such as mathematics, physics,
chemist and astronomy. With this I wish to point out that the spirit of mysticism did not prevail in
  excess.

Chapel of Jakob Rem in Ingolstadt

“Mater Ter Admirabilis”, and the Schöenstatt Movement.
The Title of “Mater Ter Admirabilis” (Dreimal Wunderbaren Mutter in german or Mother Thrice
Admirable in English), was taken by the founder, the movement was created and directed by
father Josef Kentenich. It is evident that Father Kentenich followed the footsteps of the Venerable
Jacob Rem”. Josef Kentenich was born in 1885 in vallendar  (Middle of west Germany between
Frankfurt and Colonia) over the Rihn river. He was ordained at a very young age in 1910, he was
a Latin teacher in the seminary of the Pallottinos Priest in Schöenstatt a small village of that
  territory.
Now a days the city of vallendar is a strong and modern city contrasting with some buildings
such as the church of St. Peter and Marcelino, the chapel of St. marine with the tower at the
bottom of the Wasserburg castle and the house of union of the Palatinos priest joined to the
  Schoenstatt editorials.

Father Kentenich was named the spiritual director of the seminarians,of their formation as youth
and for their preparation for the times and the world that would come to schoenstatt. “ To form
new men in a new community” under the protection of Mary, we wish to educate ourselves to be
able to become righteous , free and priestly characters”, In 1912 and with this words father
Kentenich would expressed himself to his pupils as he began to give the basics of what is now
  called “ Marian Congregation”

We are told that he gathered the seminarians on Sunday October 1914 in an old abandoned
chapel used to store tools for the seminary dedicated to St. Micheal the Archangel (Patron of
Bavaria). He expressed the following : “ Without a doubt, there is no other accomplishment as
great as this apostolic action and to leave our successors with the precious inheritance of
inducing our Sovereign Lady to erect her throne here in a very special way, so that she may
pour out her treasures and work miracles of graces”

On that day 1914, a few months after Germany declared war on Russia (August 1st 1914) and
while Europe was preparing for one of the most catastrophic wars, the Schöenstatt Movement
  is formed.
A few months later the image of the Virgin Mary as the Mother of God was enthroned in the
chapel; this image was a lithograph ( copy right series) from a painting by swiss Luigi Crosio
that had the title “ Refuge of Sinners”
The venerable father Kentenich, following the historical footsteps of another saint of the German
church, Father Jakob Rem of the University of Ingolstadt, who 300 years before had already
founded the first marian congregations and who was the one that gave the title of:
“Dreimal Wunderbaren Mutter”, ( Mater Ter Admirabilis), Mother Thrice Admirable. Since this
date on the 18th members of the Schöenstatt Movement renew their commitment of Love to this
  apostolat.

Both world wars marked he Schöenstatt apostolate, the first one marked its founding and the
second one was to face grave problems . The Schöenstatt devotion has the particularity of being
articulate, not simply because of the veneration of the image. The shrine and the devotion to Mary
as guide for vocations are implicit, they manifest the Kentenich spirituality such as : “To Christ
with Mary, in the Holy Spirit to the Father”. The Fatherly spirituality of God the Father is the
objective followed by father Kentenich, millions of children were left without parents during the
second world war. We are told that father Kentenich who was an orphan(without a father) would
recognized this as the need that changed his life. During world war I, one of the most active
members of the movement and seminarian Josef Engling loses his life at Cambrai France.

During world war II en 1941 Father Kentenich is taken prisoner by the Gestapo and retained for
a month in the prison of Koblenz.  He suffered prison in the concentration camp of Dachau. In
prison , like the apostle Paul, he continued writing the main books for the Schöenstatt fraternity.
We are told that a prisoner from “schöenstatt” by the name of Carl Leisner was ordained a priest
at the same concentration camp. Pope John Paul II beatified him in 1996.

When he was in Chile at the Bellavista Shrine, venerable Kentenich wrote a very extensive letter
where he expresses strong criticism to the Church thru the person of the Bishop of the diocese
of Treveris to whom the Schöenstatt movement depended on. It is not long before the replica of
the many priest and committed laity of the church have suffered before the council of Vatican II.

Father Kentenich is removed from the Order and is sent to immigrate to the United States to a
parish in Milwaukee where he tastes the bitter chalice after being a person that gave all his
existence for vocations to the service of the Church made of the faithful and the ordained.
In one of the last meetings of the Council, father Kentenich’s case is revised and renewed with a
gesture of understanding and reconciliation, Pope VI receives him in a private audience and offers
  him a chalice.

When he was 83 years old, the venerable father Josef Kentenich dies on September 15, 1968
on the day of Our Lord and the festivities of Our Lady of Sorrows right after he celebrated the
Holy Mass. He was buried in the same sacristy and the epitaph(chosen by him) is a synthesis
of his spirituality : “Dilexit Ecclesiam” ( “ I Love the Church” ). The life of this male saint of the
church leaves us with a certain bitter sweet taste, his life was a total surrender , that with his
convictions as a Man, first goes before an Image. I take this words and make them mine:
!Venerable Pater Kentenich O.P.N.! « I am sad because my path never met with yours, but
I am happy because you have returned to the Father.»

  Venerable Father
    Josef Kentenich

    Postulator Of the
    process of beatification.

Image of the Virgin of Schöenstatt
When it comes to the Image emblem of the Schöenstatt movement, in 1935 the venerable
Kentenich explains clearly its meaning to Schöenstatt: It is true that just like the simple
town embraces her with joy, for some of our most learned people it is sometimes a
“stumbling block and scandal” and so causing a sentiment of rejection , causing a crisis
in the relations to the Movement. The image arrived at the chapel in 1915 in a certain way
by providence, to save us from a problem. Since the Movement has grown with Her, we
cannot be separated any more.” He continues to say: “ It is very much possible that if our
image had been made to please the modern taste, the Movement would have succumbed
very quickly to the dangers of certain types of naturalism  and of  religious estheticism or
of intellectualism, which would drive her to hear its “ death sentence” . But in this way,
each learned person who is interested , feels the demand to make a personal decision to
take a deeper look to the powers that work within him, and in this manner to affirm or to
reject the Movement as a movement of life and graces. In this Image the “Scandal of the
Cross” its permanently symbolized and expressed , which renders effective the great law
of the Kingdom of God: “ He exalted the lowly”

Part of the lithography of the
   Image “Refugium Peccatorum”
   The complete copies are
enthroned in the Shrines of the
   Schöenstatt Movement

The Original was painted in Oil in this last decade of the XIX century by Swiss painter Luigi
Crosio, born in Alba in 1835, died in 1915 in Turin, under the title of : “Refugium Peccatorum”
( Refuge of Sinners). The Dogma on the Immaculate Conception was not defined until
December 8th 1844 by Pope Pious IX, with the Papal Bull Ineffabilis Deus.
It is said that it is most probable that his daughter Ana posed as a model. Currently the
painting is under the custody of the Sisters of Mary. Speaking in modern terms, the Image held
record sales. On October 10th 1898 , the printing shop of the brothers Zurich Kunzli bought the
rights to the Image and commercialized it in different versions, including also the lithography
print in color. After 1914 when the students were being formed for the missions, they looked
together with their spiritual director , for an image of Mary for the old chapel of St. Micheal, a
professor from the institution bought one of these lithographic prints in an antique shop in 1915
and gave it as a gift to the young Marian Congregation.
Soon in Schöenstatt, the Image received the title: “ Mater ter Admirabilis”, Mother Thrice
Admirable. The Blessed Virgin was venerated under this title in the XVI century at Ingolstadt
where the Jesuit Priest Jacob Rem had founded the first Marian Congregation at the University
  of Bavaria.

From an Image to a Movement or viseversa .
As an analyst, I see how father kentenich first of all organized the apostolic Movement
and later divine providence provides the standards. In this case in a casual manner, with
the Image of Our Lady ( “Refuge of Sinners” ) and the title of Mater Ter Admirabilis from
  Jocob Rem.
In the case of Our Virgin Mary Untier of Knots, it was only an image that during a period
of 300 years was hidden from its true origin until my investigations, producing an
explosion of faith in God’s country, from Argentina and throughout the world. From now
on the only thing left to do for the devotees of the Virgin Mary Untier of Knots is to make
  the movement and its organization.
Rephrasing some of the principles of our brothers of the Schöenstatt Movement, we can
say that: «The essential thing is our covenant of love with Mary in her Shrine. From
there Mary, The Mother and Queen Thrice admirable has established her teacher’s
“workshop” There she receives and transforms all her children and sends them out to
  the world like the apostles.»

Note: Father Angel Strada is the Postulator of the process of beatification of P. Josef
Kentenich. In respect to Jakob Rem, the diocese process of canonization ended
in 1949. Due to “recent studies” beatifications and canonizations are now known and
understood. Rome has the last word.
